Recorded in 2018 and produced by Paul Durham (from the band Black Lab) in his home studio in Bozeman, Willow is a set of five songs written in the tender age of Ella Rae's adolescence. They contain the emotionality of a young woman coming into her own and exploring her inner emotional world. The fundamental guitar parts experiment with alternate tunings, gentle picking patterns, and musical influence from an immersive year spent in Portugal.
In 2021, Ella raised over $8,000 through a Kickstarter campaign to fund the release and promotion of these 5 songs. The debut was released in June of 2022, and with the generosity of over 70 patrons from the Kickstarter campaign, Willow has currently been streamed 40,000+ times across all streaming platforms.
Sharing these songs in live settings across the world has given rise to countless meaningful moments, connecting audiences around the campfire in northern Thailand, on stage at forest festivals in Estonia, and in underground jazz clubs in Tbilisi, Georgia (the country). Currently, these songs are rooted back in their birthplace of Montana, where new songs are being born from the same expansive landscape and the silence of the natural world that Willow came from. New album releases are in the works!
